With the growing global challenges facing our industry, the need for technological developments to produce food more efficiently and sustainably is growing faster than ever. For the second time, international greenhouse technology provider Ridder has supported agro-technological research teams addressing the challenge of growing tomatoes with AI technology in Chinese greenhouses.
“We believe that the stand-alone greenhouse is part of the future of our industry, which will help us find new ways to provide food to the growing world population,†said Fulco Wijdooge, Managing Director of Ridder China. “Ridder wants to be at the forefront of data-driven culture and the implementation of new industry 4.0 applications in greenhouse horticulture. ”
Agriculture of the future
Ridder’s desire to be at the forefront of new technological developments in greenhouse horticulture is one of the reasons for his participation in the Smart Agriculture Competition. This competition is hosted by PinDuoDuo, China’s largest online agriculture platform that connects over 16 million farmers to over 824 million users and consumers. Their goal is to invest and innovate at all stages of the agricultural value chain and to play their role in feeding more people in a more sustainable way. By hosting the smart farming competition, PinDuoDuo is exploring the applications of digital farming technologies and their feasibility for wider adoption, thus contributing to their goal of finding new ways to make farming stand the test of time.
This is the second time that the competition has been organized by PinDuoDuo. Teams of the 4 finalists will be expected to grow high-quality, high-yielding tomatoes, using interdisciplinary cultivation, smart algorithms and computer technologies, while following sustainable farming practices.
Smart greenhouse technology
Each team will be assigned to a 96m2 Autonomous smart greenhouse, which can also be controlled remotely. To give students the best possible instruments and technologies to help them on their way, Ridder will provide each team with advanced climate control systems, Ridder Synopta control software, smart sensor systems and water treatment systems. , as well as other on-site equipment and engineering.
