Shanghai (Gasgou) – On September 8, BYD officially launched its dedicated BEV electronics platform 3.0, which is expected to help the global intelligent electric vehicle (EV) industry grow faster by at least three years.
According to BYD, the advantages of Electronic Platform 3.0 are based on four main aspects, namely intelligence, high efficiency, security and aesthetics.
BYD 3.0 electronic platform
Regarding intelligence, the newly launched platform comes with the vehicle operating system developed in-house by BYD, which provides a high-level cooperative system for high-level intelligent driving. It upgrades the conventional distributed electrical / electronic (EEA) architecture to the centralized domain architecture, which is divided into 4 sets of domain control systems for intelligent powertrain, vehicle control, intelligent cockpit and intelligent driving, in order to provide better interaction between vehicles and people, as well as vehicles and other things on the roads.
Notably, the vehicle control domain control system entered volume production, making BYD the first company in China to achieve this feat.
When it comes to efficiency, the 3.0 electronics platform comes standard with a newly upgraded 8-in-1 module for the drive system, the world’s first of its kind, which enables the overall efficiency of exceed 89% and allows a range exceeding 1,000 kilometers for a car. Thanks to the all-new four-wheel drive system, an electric vehicle (EV) based on the platform can go from 0 to 100 km / h in just 29 seconds. With 800V fast charging technology, a 5 minute charge can add 150 km of range to an EV.
When it comes to safety, the Electronic Platform 3.0 dramatically improves the structural design integrity of an all-electric vehicle and BYD’s ultra-safe Blade battery, with the goal of doubling the torsional stiffness of the body.
In terms of aesthetics, electric vehicles mounted on the platform will feature shorter front overhangs, a wider wheelbase, a lower center of gravity, a larger driver and seat space with a drag coefficient (Cd) as low as 0.21.
Concept Ocean-X
At the launch ceremony, BYD also unveiled the “Ocean-X” concept model built on the 3.0 electronics platform. Positioned as a mid-size high-performance sports sedan, the concept also carries the aforementioned features, such as 8-in-1 module, integrated body design, four-wheel drive system and intelligent domain control architecture.
The first mass-produced model based on the 3.0 electronics platform is the BYD Dolphin, which hit the market at the 2021 Chengdu Motor Show last month. Coming with four trim levels, the Dolphin costs between 93,800 yuan ($ 14,510) and 121,800 yuan ($ 18,840) after inducements.
